How We Can Help Empower The Poor In Rural Rajasthan

A motivating factor behind SANJULA’S creation has been to build a business that can give back something to the communities that have been, and continue to be, a source of inspiration. To choose one or two from among the countless worthy causes is an impossible task. However, in response to certain synchronistic events over the past 12 months, Sanjula, at this point, has decided to help fund the operations of the Vatsalya children’s home in Jaipur.

Vatsalya exists today due to the vision of a family who have dedicated the past six years to providing shelter, food, healthcare and love to India’s abandoned and destitute children. But further to this, Vatsalya is a work in progress, and research is continually being undertaken to assist the founders of Vatsalya with the information necessary to create the most efficient and most viable self-sustainable model in this particular region of the world.

A key factor in achieving sustainability is the implementation of programs aimed at empowering the poorest women in rural India. One way to empower these women is to provide them with employment. As a means of hiring the village women, paying them fair wages and provide training and support for themselves and their children, the team at Vatsalya has set up “ANOOTHI” an online facility for the purchase of handcrafted jewelry and other beautiful paper products and gifts (www.anoothi.org). Please contact Delta deltadonohue@gmail.com for further information.

How can Sanjula help these women?

On a recent visit to the orphanage, we can across many magnificent traditional Rajasthani necklaces. One style in particular took our attention. Beautifully created with semi-precious stones, sterling silver and detailed beading, tapering to a tassel finish, this particular design was something that we could visualize as part of SANJULA’S range. Working together with the women so that they too could visualize our ideas, has enabled the women to produce what can only be called magnificent works of art. No two pieces are the same. Each necklace is very generous in length and beautifully crafted. We think you will agree, these pieces are eye-catching for their style, craftswomanship and their stunning beauty.

There are two particular stones that we like to use in these pieces, black onyx and garnet. The necklaces can be made in all garnet with silver clasps or all black onyx or a combination of onyx and garnet. When you hold this waterfall of stones in you hand you will appreciate the quality of these exceptional necklaces.

The price for these exquisite works of art: $340.00

By purchasing this necklace you will be DIRECTLY assisting the funding of this women’s empowerment program.
